The Allure of Turquoise as Gemstones for Stunning Engagement Rings

Rings embedded with diamonds will certainly never go out of style, but jewellery pieces seemingly capturing a piece of the blue sky holds a certain appeal. Even ancient people have been allured by turquoise, the sky-blue gemstone that’s rightly dubbed the “gemstone of the people”. Truly, gifting turquoise engagement rings is like gifting your special someone a piece of heaven on earth. Turquoise and the World Turquoise is an opaque mineral and a hydrous phosphate of copper and aluminium. This mineral is often found amongst arid climates, including Iran, China, Egypt, and the American Southwest. The Persians were amongst the first ones to adorn turquoise, believing that this gem wards off unnatural death. In fact, turquoise has been embedded not only on jewellery pieces, but also on daggers, sabres, and bridles for horses, believing that those who wear the gem will never see poverty.

Jewellers in Reading Illustrated History of the House of Bulgari

For more than a century, jewellery from the House of Bulgari have been distinguished for its colour, texture, and romantic appeal. What started as a small jewellery shop in Rome has grown into an esteemed manufacturer of dazzling pieces and haute creations that sent even Hollywood celebrities into a frenzy. As it turns another year older, the House of Bulgari continues to produce the finest pieces of jewellery and timepieces for everyone. Humble Beginnings The marks of craftsmanship that distinguished Bulgari from other jewellery brands are often attributed to its Greek ancestral roots, with the Voulgaris family of silversmiths specialising in the creation of Byzantine-style art pieces. Originating from a small village in the Pindus mountain range, the Voulgaris family were all adept in making different silver crafts, including earrings and belts. This inherent skill was eventually passed to Sotirio, who happened to be an entrepreneur himself.

Beyond Blue: Fabulous Colour Choices for Sapphire Engagement Rings

For more than a thousand years, many jewellers have celebrated the exquisite beauty of sapphire. In earlier times, people believed that the firmament was actually an enormous blue sapphire, with the Earth embedded within it. Sapphires, as we know them today, come in different colours that reflect the varying shades of the sky—from the bright, translucent blue of a summer’s day to the deep blue vault of a moonlit midnight. Where Sapphires are Found Sapphires, like most gemstones, are mined from the ground. Sapphire is formed by natural volcanic and metamorphic processes that occur deep in the earth due to high pressure and temperature. Liquid magma slowly cools minerals such as corundum, from which sapphire gemstones are refined.

Fancy Engagement Rings Crowned with Opulent Birthstones? Why Not?

Since ancient times, people have held a special fascination for birthstones and what these gems represent. Ranging from the semi-precious (e.g. lapis lazuli and peridot) to the ultra-precious (think diamonds and emerald), there’s a birthstone associated with every month of the year. Each birthstone is believed to bring good fortune and protect the wearer from various ills. The four types of birthstone lists There is more than one birthstone list for each month. In fact, there are four: Traditional, Alternative, Mystical and Ayurvedic. Both the Traditional and Alternative birthstone lists were compiled by U.K.’s very own National Association of Goldsmiths. The Mystical list is loosely based on a 1,000 year old Tibetan manuscript, whilst the Ayurvedic list draws from Indian philosophy and medicine dating back to ancient India, around 1,500 B.C.

Jewellers in Reading: Choosing a Peridot for Fine Custom Jewellery

No matter what the occasion is, you can find the perfect jewellery gift. Indeed, nothing beats a seasonable custom piece crafted by some of the finest jewellers in Reading. Summer, for instance, is the perfect season for peridot jewellery, which has an unmistakeable allure and luminescence that any wearer would be proud to show off. If diamonds have the 4Cs (cut, clarity, colour, and carat) to guide buyers, peridot has its own criteria for quality. Here are a few tips to help you choose the best peridot for your bespoke jewellery gift. Going for Green Peridot is one of the most stunning green gems you can find. No other gem has that beautiful grass-green colour with a slight hint of gold. The green colouration of this gemstone comes from its iron content. Peridot, however, also comes in a variety of shades like vivid lime green, olive green, yellowish green, and even brownish green.

Coloured Gemstones for Wedding Rings in Reading Instead of Diamonds

A diamond is forever, or so they say. Since the 1940s, diamonds have become the customary wedding ring gemstones for couples who want to seal their vows with something extra special on their big day. Whilst it is true that nothing quite surpasses a quality diamond’s regal brilliance, there are other alternatives that are just as beautiful. If your bride is not much of a stickler for tradition, profess your eternal love and devotion instead with a non-diamond wedding ring from jewellery shops in Reading. Here is a look at non-traditional wedding ring gemstones worth considering. Peridot Peridot is a yellowish-green precious stone that was once favoured by ancient civilisations for its exquisite beauty. The Egyptians have been wearing peridot jewellery as early as the 2nd millennium B.C., and the ancient Romans even called it “the emerald of the evening” for its radiant green glow that remains unaltered in any light.

Jewellers in Reading Delve Into the Rich History and Lore of Peridot

Considered one of the oldest known gemstones, with records about its existence dating to as far back as 1500 B.C., peridot continues to captivate buyers all over the world. This rare, gem-quality olivine is typically mined at volcanic sites, particularly in places throughout Egypt, Arizona, Arkansas, and San Carlos. The rarest samples, meanwhile, are extracted from Pallasite meteorites. Believed to have been first mined at an island in the Egyptian Red Sea, now known as St. John’s Island, peridot held a special place in the culture of the ancient Egyptians who believed that the gem had the power to bring good fortune and protection against evil and disease. Today, the birthstone for August is still associated with luck, peace, and happiness. Learn more about peridot’s storied past and the qualities that make it such an in-demand gemstone when it comes to fine jewellery here in Reading.

Jewellers in Reading: Spotlight on the Ravishing Red Ruby Gemstone

Rubies are durable so they can easily hold against the normal wear and tear; however, like any gemstone, it could lose its natural shine and allure when not taken care of properly. You would want to protect your ruby jewellery from getting a cloudy appearance, so before you put it on, make sure that you already applied your skin lotions and other cosmetic sprays. Clean them periodically using warm water, mild soap, and a gentle brush. Always go to an expert jeweller from establishments like Jacobs the Jewellers in Reading for repairs or simply to make sure that your precious fiery gems are secured on their mountings.

Reading Jewellery Shops Fix Broken Rings—But You Can Be Extra Careful in your wearing habits

If you believe that only pressure can have an effect on platinum, think again. Like other metals, platinum will react with certain substances, just as iron forms rust when exposed to moisture. Because platinum is malleable, it can melt faster than other metals. And while it doesn’t melt when soaked in most acid solutions, it will dissolve in aqua regia, a mixture of hydrochloric and nitric acids. It can also melt in alkali such as sodium hydroxide and limewater. But you probably won’t come across this scenario too often! Regardless of which jewellery shop in Reading you bought your platinum ring from, it will undergo a certain degree of chemical change when exposed to any of those substances. So if your job involves the use of those compounds, better take off your platinum ring before starting to work.

Diamond Rings in Reading: Choosing the Perfect Setting Design for You

Those looking for the simplicity of a traditional design will find the Bezel setting right up their alley. The design features a single piece surrounded by a metal rim. This style is one of the earliest methods used for jewellery and still is a popular choice today. It protects the stone from getting chipped and holds it securely in place, with a distinctly smooth surface that won’t get snagged on delicate fabrics. The metal surrounding the stone also makes it look larger than it really is. Each setting design has its own advantages. Be sure to take your time in choosing the right one for your engagement ring in Reading from the most trusted makers of quality rings, like Jacobs the Jewellers.

Choosing Wedding Rings in Reading of Various Styles for the Big Day

If engagement rings are all about the flashy stones, wedding bands in Berkshire are all about the precious metals. If you’re both very traditional, your popular choices would be yellow gold or pure gold. If you can’t seem to settle on one, you can agree to disagree and choose different metals but have it made so that they’re sporting the same style. Of course, you’ll want something that would stand the test of time. Therefore, you should not settle for 22ct gold bands as it is too soft to be worn daily, but rather, an 18ct golden ring that can better handle the job.

Trusted Reading Jewellers: Make Your Precious Pieces Last a Lifetime

The most common metal for many of our pieces is gold. As a trusted Reading jeweller we know that gold jewellery can last for generations however we also know the key to this is maintenance and care not to mention spotting any problems early. Platinum, although stronger than gold and resistant to tarnishing and discolouration, has its similar characteristics. For one, it can still be scratched. According to jewelrynotes.com, any material harder than platinum, e.g. titanium, tungsten, and diamonds can scratch it, so it should be kept separated from other pieces where possible.

Water Resistant and Waterproof Watches Available at Jacobs the Jewellers in Reading

Through the years, watches have been not only useful devices to tell the time but fashionable accessories as well. Modern technology has allowed watchmakers to craft timepieces in a way that makes them aesthetically appealing, more durable, and with even more uses than ever before. Some are made to be especially resistant to water, and some are even completely waterproof. The most renowned watch makers sold by Jacobs the jewellers in Reading—brands like Tag Heuer, Cartier, Longines, Bremont, Bulgari, and others—are known to make such kinds of watches. If you look at the opposite side of a watch’s face, known as the case back, printed on the reverse are numbers and words that identify it as either water-resistant or waterproof. Sadly, too many people get the two confused too often. Before you go showering, swimming or even diving with your trusty timepiece around your wrist, get to know what those markings at the back of your watch mean.
